A fast-growing clothing brand kept running out of its best sellers and was overstocked on everything else. A review and a new buying plan released $1.8M of cash in a year.

Wren & Fold sells knitwear and outerwear online and through around forty stores. Sales had grown by half in two years, but the bank balance had not kept up.
Buying decisions were made line by line, by feel, with no view of what was already in the warehouse. The best sellers ran out in October; slow lines sat on shelves for two seasons.
We built a buying plan around a smaller range, set reorder points for the core lines and agreed on a clear rule for clearing slow-moving inventory. A monthly inventory meeting brought buying, finance and the warehouse into one room.
The brand released $1.8M of cash from slow-moving inventory within a year and now carries two fifths fewer lines, with fewer stockouts on the ones customers want.
