Healthcare practices
Seven practices bought over ten years each ran their own way. A shared structure and one set of numbers let the group grow without adding a layer of managers.

Fernlea Dental Group owns seven practices, each bought from a retiring dentist. Each kept its own scheduling rules, suppliers and way of reporting.
The group could not compare one practice with another, so it could not see that two practices left a fifth of their chair time empty.
We designed a small central team for scheduling, purchasing and finance, and one weekly scorecard for every practice manager. Each practice kept its own name and its own patients.
Chair time used rose by eighteen percent across the group, and the eighth practice joined in a month rather than a year.
